Privacy Policy — Tip Breakdown

Last updated: 2 October 2026

Tip Breakdown is a tip-out calculator for service workers, published by Michael Sullivan.

The short version

Tip Breakdown does not collect, transmit, or sell any of your data. Everything you enter stays on your device. The app has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising.

What the app stores

All of the following is stored only on your device, in the app’s private storage:

Your name and settings — text size, appearance, reporting preset, and line names — so the app remembers them between launches.
Your roster — the names and roles of the people you work with.
Your locations — the names of the places you work, if you add any, so you can pick one when entering a shift.
Your tip log — a CSV file of the shifts you have chosen to save, including the date, location, tip amounts, net sales, and each person’s payout.
Your cash log, only if you use it — the cash splits you have chosen to keep with the Save button on the Tip Calculator: the date, the total, what was left over, and each person’s name and share. It is kept apart from the tip log. The app never shares, exports, or opens it in another app; you can view it, or delete all of it, in Settings → Cash Log.

None of this is sent anywhere. Deleting the app removes all of it.

All of it is included in your phone’s own backup — iCloud on iPhone, Google on Android — if you have that backup turned on. That backup belongs to your Apple or Google account; the app has no access to it.

What the app does not do

It does not create an account or ask for an email address.
It does not connect to the internet. The app makes no network requests of any kind.
It does not use analytics, crash reporting, tracking, or advertising.
It does not access your contacts, photos, location, camera, or microphone.

When you tap Share Breakdown or Send CSV File, the app hands a text summary or a CSV file, respectively, to your device’s standard share sheet. You choose what happens next — a messaging or email app, saving it as a file, or cancelling. Nothing is shared unless you pick a destination yourself, and the app has no visibility into what you choose.

When you use Import Shift Data, you pick a file with the system file picker. The app reads only the file you select.

Contacting the developer

When you tap Contact Developer in Settings, the app opens a new email in your own email app, addressed to the developer. Below the space for your message it adds one line of details — the app’s version, your phone’s model, and its iOS or Android version — because bug reports usually turn on them. You see everything before it’s sent and can edit or delete any of it. Nothing is sent unless you send it yourself, from your email app; Tip Breakdown itself still makes no network requests.

If you do send it, the developer receives your message, those details, and the email address you send from, and uses them only to reply to you.

Children

Tip Breakdown is a workplace tool intended for adults. It does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
